For the last couple of months I’ve been using a shampoo designed specifically for myself! When I was approached by the shampoo and conditioner company known as Formulate, I was super intrigued. It is a personalized hair care that is perfectly engineered for you with no sulfates or parabens, and its individually mixed and cruelty-free. Why not try a shampoo that is uniquely designed for me and that sounds amazing? So I decided to try it out.
The formulate team were so easy to communicate with. I honestly have been the worst at the communication part, forgetting to check my emails, and not writing this post in a timely manner.. life got in the way. The team has been really great at responding to all my many questions before and during the process. The first step in the process is to take a survey which asks about your hair quality currently and what you would like for the formulated shampoo to help with. There are 28 questions overall, and they are similar to the following: What color is your hair? How long is your hair? How thick is your hair? How oily is your hair? And is your scalp sensitive? It even goes into questions about what products you use when styling your hair and where you live, since that plays a huge part of how your hair responds. At the end of the survey, you get to choose what scent you would like out of their 7 scents: shoreline, tidal, at dawn, freshly squeezed, verdant, burgeon, or Green with Envy; I chose the burgeon. Once the survey is complete, your unique blend of shampoo and conditioner is ordered and should be delivered within a couple weeks. Once I received the package, I was so excited to try it out.
The packaging was so nice! You get your shampoo and conditioner in a beautiful white and black box with crate paper inside and the bottles are shaped really unique. They come with twist off lids and two push lids to attach for the shampoo and the conditioner. I really loved the burgeon scent that I chose and I tried the shampoo and conditioner for a couple weeks. I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted and honestly didn’t think the formula was done correctly for my hair. After drying my hair with the hairdryer within the first week, my hair felt really oily, almost as if I didn’t get all the shampoo out. So that next week I made sure to get all the shampoo out of my hair while in the shower and it was still the same. But again, the formulate team was amazing and specifically my lady, Caroline, was incredible! She made sure to check in on my progress throughout my time and I was open with her about how I didn’t feel like the products were working for me. After I stated that, she told me to go ahead and tell her exactly what wasn’t working and she would have the team reformulate a new shampoo and conditioner for me. I couldn’t believe that she would go through all that trouble.
I am happy to say that the second product has been working lovely! I have really long hair and lots of it, however every piece is fairly thin. I also seem to loose hair pretty rapidly– every time Dave and I are vacuuming ( I mean Dave vacuums), he is always commenting on the amount of hair he just sucked up and how its a wonder I even have hair anymore. I wanted to make sure to keep more of my hair and I wanted to add volume to my hair. These were all factors that I put in the survey and things that I feel the product has helped with. I can definitely notice a different in the way my hair is falling now that I have been using the products and instead of my hair having WAY more volume at the end, I feel like my hair has consistent volume from the roots to the ends. I also LOVE the scent I chose! The burgeon scent that I got is a natural aromatic extract that captures the heady scent of a freshly bloomed orange blossom, and its slightly floral and fully intoxicating– I never want to leave the shower and it makes the experience even better!
It even works well with newly colored hair!
I have really truly enjoyed my experience with this brand from the initial setup and survey, the communications with their team members and using the products.
